I grew up in a large family on a farm in southern Saskatchewan.  After stints as a high school teacher and as a college psychology instructor, I moved with my own famiy to Vancouver to study architecture. Upon graduation I worked as a planner and architectural designer and later also started a construction company.

After my chldren grew up I closed my practise and construction company and moved to Galiano Island. This was the beginning of a period in my life when I had more time for interests like woodworking and art. I later moved back to Vancouver, where I did architectural work part time from a home office and continued to spend some time on my interests in art. I spent one year at Capilano College in the Artists Residency Program and worked for part of a year as a sculptor on set construction in the movie industry. In 2012 I spent some time in a print making workshop in Mexico and took a stone sculpting course in France

My partner, Brigitte, is from northern Germany and since 2009 I have been spending approximately half my time in Europe, mostly in Germany. I enjoy the history, architecture and the art galleries and museums of Europe very much. We enjoy travelling. In 2011 we walked 250 km. of the Camino de Santiago and in 2012 hiked the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. In 2013 we spent three months in Australia and New Zealand. In January of 2014 we spent a month bumming around southern Mexico. During the summer of 2014 we travelled through Scandanavia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland in Brigitte's VW camper. Since then we have travelled a number of times to France, Spain, Belguim and the Netherlands.

My kids, Tonje (and Marty), Kari and my grandkids Nesta and Nanah, and Kjell (and Nina) and Milo all live in Vancouver at present. I like them all very much and it is great to be able to see them often.
